| Surrendering Your Lab Through Brookline |
Surrendering a dog is never easy, but sometimes is necessary due to changing family circumstances. We
often see Labs whose owners were unaware that the puppy they got would turn into a very large and active
adult, requiring more care and energy than they were originally prepared to give.

BLRR has helped place Labs coming from all types of situations - shelters, abusive homes, and even
homes that were forced to give up their family member due an unforeseen change of circumstance that
could not be avoided.
Whatever the reason*, Brookline can work with you to place your Lab in a caring and loving forever home -
and that's what you want for your faithful friend.
The Process
First, find out if you are in our coverage area. We evaluate all dogs that we are helping to place, so you
must be in our coverage area so that a volunteer can visit the dog and make an assessment. A
non-refundable donation of $10.00 is due at the time of the evaluation.
The volunteer will then post a description and photo of your Lab to other members in our group and to our
"Available Pets" page www.petfinder.org
The Lab is then released to the adopting family for their required Pre-Adoptive period (minimum 3 weeks)
with approval by the supervising volunteer, provided the introduction is a success. At this time a
non-refundable fee of $35.00 is due from the surrendering owner.
The surrendering owner must provide proof of current immunizations, negative heartworm test results, and
complete vet records at the time of the introduction.
We will keep you posted on how the dog is adjusting to the new home and will let you know when the
adoption becomes final. If for any reason during or at the end of the Pre-Adoptive period, the
fostering/adoptive family decides not to keep the dog, the dog will be returned to you, the surrendering
owner, until another introduction can be arranged.
