Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue
Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
Harley
Hello, my name is Harley. I just turned 1 yr. old in December 2009. I met my furever Mom in February 2010 and then she officially
adopted me in March. Wow, what an exciting time I’ve had since then. I got to experience my first BIG snowstorm. I had soooooo
much fun romping around in the deep snow. It almost covered me up when I dove into it. Mom had a hard time seeing me,
especially since I’m almost the same color as the snow. It was such great fun that I didn’t want to come in the house. Mom couldn’t
stop laughing because my antics were so funny. My human nephews would throw snowballs and I would try to catch them. Some
went into the snow and I just dove right in and tried to find them.

My "family" consists of just Mom and me. However, I do have a female dog-cousin named Raven, a human big brother, sister-in-
law and seven year old twin nephews who live a couple of houses away. They play in the yard with me almost every day after
school. They love to toss the ball or Frisbee to me. My cousin is a Portuguese Water Dog. She’s about the same age as me and
since we are both still "puppies", we have a lot of energy to run off. We love to play tug-of-war or wrestle. That really tires me out and
I don’t feel as restless in the house after we get all that exercise.

Mom and I go for several walks every day. I’m still practicing my leash manners, although she’s very proud of me because I’ve
improved so much. I don’t pull quite as much now. I really love the long walks and there’s so much to see in the neighborhood.
There are a lot of squirrels and birds. I’d love to chase them, but mom just won’t let me go. She says there are too many cars and it
would be dangerous. I also enjoy meeting the children and other dogs in the neighborhood. I’ve made a lot of new friends.
Sometimes in the morning, it looks like a dog convention at the school bus stop. Mom and I will be starting serious obedience
training in a couple of weeks. It sounds like a lot of fun. I like being with other dogs and want to show them how smart I am. I love
learning, especially if there’s a treat involved. I’m still getting the hang of what things I can play with in the house and what I’m not
allowed to touch. I’m not perfect yet, but there is progress.

I know Mom is happy to have me with her. She really missed her two other Labs after they died this past year. They lived with her a
long time, so it’s been awhile since she’s had a puppy in the house. Mom is so patient with me and I love her for it. In fact, I stick to
her like Velcro. Sometimes, she even lets me tag along for the ride to Dunkin Donuts. She gets a coffee and I get one of the dog
treats she keeps in the car for my good behavior. I’m a lucky, lucky guy! I want to thank Brookline for matching me with my new
furever Mom. I know she’s happy with me because she tells me so, every day.
