Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
|

Then the nice Brookline folks set me up with a foster family and they were really great! They treated me very nicely, took great care of me,
gave me a couple of baths, and took me for walks. They played with me and gave me lots of belly rubs and made me feel very special.
They even made me my very own loaf of homemade bread to eat. Well, I thought they made it just for me. Thanks so very, very much,
foster family. You helped me out after a difficult time in my life.
After I spent about 4 weeks with my foster family, I got to go to this thing called an "introduction" to meet what would possibly be my new
family and my fursister. Let me tell you, my fursister really "introduced" herself to me! She started off right away letting me know that I
shouldn’t get any ideas; that these were her people; and that I shouldn’t forget my place because she was there with the family first. The
word "bossy" came to mind. There are two young girls in the family and they were just so happy to see me when I met them. They were
petting me and giving me belly rubs and the whole time, my fursister was going on and on about how they were her kids and I shouldn’t
get any ideas. I think she was just trying to protect them, just in case.
The ride home to the family’s house was peaceful, thank goodness. When we got there, I got to check out the yard for a while with my
adoptive family. Let me tell you, I have been living like a Very Important Pet since I got to this house! I’ve heard my adoptive family say that
they are surprised my belly isn’t bald by now from all of the belly rubs. What can I say, I love belly rubs!
After about a week though, they gave me a very thorough, all inclusive, spa treatment bath and brushing with lots and lots of treats.
Everyone says I’m even more handsome than I was before. I have this brand new, really cushy 6" thick bed that’s made out of something
called "memory foam" and it’s a really comfy place to sleep at night. I think I’ve seen my adoptive mom eyeing up my bed a time or two,
though, like she’s thinking about using it herself!
Sometimes, I’ve had a sad expression on my face and my adoptive family thought I was kind of "down" because of all of the things I’ve
been through. As the weeks have gone by though, I have been forgetting about the old things, and the long time at the shelter, and
making new, happy memories with my new family. Sometimes, you can see me "smiling" while I’m running around the backyard. I love it
when my adoptive dad plays ball with us in the backyard in the morning. He and I play with a football or a bouncy ball toy and my fursister
chases after her favorite ball.
I get lots of playtime with my family and my fursister and I like to show them how goofy I can be. One of my favorite things to do is to take
whatever toy my fursister has just decided she wants to play with. I like to think of it as kind of a payback for all of her "explaining" that first
time we met. We get along pretty well now though, and only have an occasional disagreement now and again. Sometimes she licks my
face like she thinks she’s my mother. It’s embarrassing, especially since she’s younger than me.
My family has taken my fursister and I on lots of walks and when we turn in the driveway, my adoptive family says that we’re "home" now. I
like to think of it that way too. After our walks and when I’m tired from playing, I get to rest in the grass or on the back porch, checking out
my awesome backyard, listening to the birds chirp and watching my crazy fursister chasing after her ball! She never stops! And they talk
about me and my belly rubs!
On my adoption day, the Brookline lady was explaining all of the adoption contract stuff about how my family agrees not to "abandon, give
away, sell or dispose of the dog in any way" and that "if at any time you determine you no longer want to or no longer can keep the dog . . ."
and my adoptive family and I just kind of looked at each other like, "yeah, right" – like that’s not ever gonna happen because I’ve found my
furever "home" and I’m not going anywhere! Thanks foster family! Thanks Brookline! Ahhhhh, now this is the life! Hey, I’m ready for a belly
rub!

My story begins when I arrived at the shelter after my
brother and I were found wondering around exploring.
The shelter place was a little scary and I didn’t really
have such good feelings about things there. My former
owner came to get my brother and I out, but could only
pay for one of us. I keep hearing how times are tough
for people. Apparently, I was a very rare guest at the shelter, because I was allowed to stay
for such a long time – 6 weeks. The shelter people kept telling me what a great dog I was
and that I had great potential and that surely somebody would want to take me home with
them. Nice as the shelter folks were to me, I didn’t really like it there, because I prefer a little
more room and don’t really appreciate being confined. Heather from Brookline came to visit
me and then I got to leave the shelter!
