Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
Cole
We have had Cole now for five weeks, and, on the basis of what
we can see, he's a total success!  We couldn't ask for anything
more!  The great mystery to us is, how could his previous owner
have let a magnificent guy like this go?  He's beautiful inside
and out.  Karen acts as a counsellor for some troubled people
at her church, and I told her that Cole would have more value for
many people than many sessions with a shrink.  His big
swishing tail says, "Life is good," a million times a day.  His
favorite game is tugging at his toys, and he's quite strong and
ferocious at it.  However, his wagging tail tells me he knows it's
a game.  I'm trying to get him interested in chasing and
retrieving balls as well.  He is less intense about this game
than the lab we had 30 years ago, but he's quite competent and
eager to please, so he's mastering this game as well.
I'm taking him to classes on Basic Canine Manners, at a local obedience school, and he is a bright and exemplary student.  As you
saw when you were at our home, he has mastered "sit'" "down," and "up" quite easily.  Now, we're working on "come" and, shortly,
"heel," which I'm sure he'll master before long.  When we take him up to one of our local outdoor restaurants, he is invariably well
received by all the patrons.  His enthusiasm is infectious and good for everyone who sees him.  As a matter of fact, we gave a party
two Saturday nights ago, and he charmed everyone who came, to the point that he got invited to another party this weekend!  As one
of our guests said, "He's a party guy!"  He doesn't see any reason that anyone wouldn't like him, and, to tell the truth, neither can we!
The only regret my wife has expressed is that we didn't have him during his puppy and young dog phase; it would have been nice to
see him growing up!  But the glass is at least half full. We have him now, and, as I said earlier, we can't imagine a better addition to
our household, as he shares this part of his life with us.  This coming weekend, we will take him for a ride on Lehigh Gorge Scenic
Railway, which says that well-behaved dogs are welcome.

(He and our highly intelligent Maine Coon Cat have learned to coexist quite easily.  Both are bright animals!  Abby has figured out
that Cole is a sweet guy, and she has taken to admitting herself into the the kitchen, where we keep him.  She leaps over the gate
and leaves when she feels like it.)
