                                                                           A Love Story

We noticed Cody, an awesome Burmese Mountain dog, in the neighborhood and always enjoyed
watching him be such a joy to his family.  He was attentive, sweet, good natured and calm.  He is
also a really big dog!  We constantly were in awe!

Then one day a year later we encountered Lucy, another neighbor’s dog, loose from her home
She had slipped from her collar and was roaming where she could have gotten hit by a vehicle.
We immediately stopped the car and hugged the dog around the neck until she was collected
and safe.  After that, my wife just said “You so need a dog.”  That started it in earnest.

So in August, Becky focused upon diligently surfing the web and found “Lehigh” at Brookline.
There she was described as “…one super lucky girl….hit by a car and nearly died, but a nice
stranger rescued me. I’m pretty perfect now except a piece of my tail had to be amputated.” She is
further described as “full of energy, athletic and a bit of a Velcro dog”.  (Boy is that true!)

So we became set upon adopting this sweet-sounding cutie pie, but we were constantly
reminded that adoption was not assured until final approval.  She was already part of our hearts,
so we just kept hoping.  We drove many miles to meet her at meet-and-greet pet shows, become acquainted with her history and really
cool foster family.

We began the qualifying process which included interviews, references, vet visits, and home inspections. The screening process was
probably more for the dog than for us, but we felt confirmed in our decision to adopt her. Our coordinator, Joan, quickly became a family
friend, and we actually met her by accident at a local pet store one day.  We are all just “pet people”.

Lehigh is now officially ours, and because of her, we have made lots of new friends, met heretofore unknown neighbors, and enjoyed
unexpected visits from family and friends.  We have experienced lots more love than we could ever have expected. Yes, even her unique
moan is adorable.

We are grateful to Joan, foster family Laura and Lance, and everyone else who encouraged us.  She is just awesome. Thank you.
