Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue
Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
Dixie
When CoCo, our adopted 11-year-old chocolate Lab (and our best
friend), passed away in November, we hesitated about looking for
another dog, but loneliness soon overcame our reluctance.  We
came upon Brookline through the Internet and immediately were
impressed by their thorough screening process. (We later heard
from our trainer that he is consistently impressed by the dogs that
come from Brookline.) Our liaison, Nancy, reinforced our good
feelings about working with Brookline. She advised patience and
assured us we would find the “right dog,” and we did with Dixie,
another chocolate Lab. Nancy communicated with us frequently and
made the process very smooth. Her associate, Jen, and Dixie’s
foster mom, Sarah, also contributed greatly to Dixie’s transition.
Dixie has been with us about 6 weeks as this is written, and we are
no longer lonely. Dixie came to Brookline after she was abandoned
at a shelter, and Brookline’s procedure of using foster parents
brought her to us as a well-behaved, well-trained, healthy and
adorable pet. Dixie is probably a candidate for the Guinness world
record for the fastest consumption of her meals, and she seems to have a future as a wide receiver in the National Football League.
She runs about a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash, makes leaping catches and refuses to drop the ball.  She is responding well to weekly
training sessions, and she is taking frequent walks with her cousin Maggie, our granddaughter’s young black Lab, for whom we
frequently dog-sit. They are slowly learning to coexist peaceably.

All in all, we are thrilled with Dixie and extremely grateful to everyone at Brookline for providing her to us.
