Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes

Buddy (now Boone) a.k.a. Buddy Edward
|
My name is Buddy and I was put up for adoption by my former family who loved me enough to let me go. They didn’t have a yard
for me to play in and I was a bit too energetic to handle so I lived either in my crate or tied to a rope. It wasn’t much fun so I
entertained myself by chewing on rugs and furniture. I was just adopted by my foster parents who have been working on my
manners, taking me for walks in the park and playing lots of fun ball games in my big yard. It’s only been a month and I’ve been
listening better and trying very hard to be good. Learning my new electric fence sometimes wasn’t fun but now that I can enjoy
my freedom of running fast around the yard, I love it! My mom works at home so I follow her all around in case she needs my
help. My specialty is carrying socks to the laundry (and sometimes out of the laundry which is a no-no). When my dad comes
home from work we play hide and seek or ball games outside. Sometimes we do yard work and I pick up sticks. My dad lets me
ride in the big yard cart. I still get overly excited when visitors come and I jump on them to say hello which I’m not supposed to do
but my mom says I’m still a work in progress so I have to keep trying hard to remember my manners. I feel much happier being
able to run around and play and when I’m inside I am so tired I don’t feel like chewing and doing bad things anymore. I hardly
ever have to be in my crate except when my mom runs errands and at bedtime. I’m so thankful for the nice Brookline volunteers
like Barbara and Betty who matched me up with my new parents who are able to give me the time and space I need to be the
happy puppy I want to be. When I go to bed at night I say my prayers that all the other “fur-ends” I hear about in shelters and
foster care will find a patient and loving family to care for them too. My mom says we all deserve that much.

Update from Boone's new family - 5/27/08
I HAVE to share that he had the best w/end of his life this past w/end! He spent 6 hours off leash with 5 other labs at Leopard
Lake chasing balls, swimming and just rough housing! He was so good. He came when Frank whistled, no food snatching or
anything. There was a very little child there also and he paid no attention to her. He was GREAT and had a blast. He barked a
little at the Devon Horse Show horse and carriages going by but most likely it was fear of the unknown. Then Monday we had
our neighbors from our former neighborhood over for a picnic. He didn't jump up or steal food or anything. He had so much fun.
He's STILL exhausted. We're so proud of him and how much he's improved. Admittedly we have put alot of time in with him but
he has put in alot of effort himself. PLEASE encourage future adopters that amazing results come from simply EXERCISING
and loving these energetic dogs
