Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
|

My husband Mike and I really had no idea what to expect when we first contacted Brookline
Lab Rescue, but we knew we didn't want to do "the puppy thing" and that there are so
many great dogs out there in need of good homes. The process was so incredibly easy
and everyone we interacted with was so wonderful. Very quickly after our interview, we
were fortunate enough to be chosen as a potential new home for a sweet, loving 7 year
old yellow lab. Her first few days (although according to my husband, the first few weeks)
were definitely challenging and we did question if Maggie was the right fit for us. We
continued to remind ourselves that she had no prior training: obedience, housebreaking
or otherwise, and likely very limited human interaction, so while we didn't want a puppy,
Maggie turned out to be a puppy in a big dog body. I fell in love with her very quickly, but
she wasn't bonding to Mike like she was to me. Thank goodness for the "3 week
pre-adoption period" rule in place by Brookline, because in the final days of "trial" she
became a totally different dog. It was like someone flipped a switch... she just seemed to
figure it all out, like she'd been here with us forever. Maggie is absolutely a part of our
family now: a child to us with unconditional love, and a companion and sister to Otis our 9
year old Lab. We couldn't be happier, with Maggie and with the entire Brookline
organization. We wish everyone the great success we have had with this process!
