Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes

Throughout history, the raven has come to symbolize
gratitude, affection, guidance, wisdom, hope, magic, and
change. The raven can be a sign of rebirth as well as death.
Myths describe this bird as medicinal. The raven is a
messenger, bringing the power of healing, understanding,
and awareness via magic. It has been said that the raven has
the ability to look inside ones heart and head and provide
empathy to those in need.
In May of 2003 via Brookline, my messenger arrived. My four-
legged “Raven” hopped out of a car bringing hope to my
exhausted psyche. The last year had been difficult for me,
struggling with a divorce and attempting to start anew. I was in
need of guidance, understanding, and comfort. On a rainy day
in May, my “Raven”, equipped with paws instead of wings,
came to me. It was the same day in which I had been married

so many years before. “How ironic”, I thought. The coming of my “Raven” clearly marked the death of my old life and the rebirth of
anew.
My “Raven” has been truly magical and medicinal. I have come to understand life clearly through the messages my “Raven” has
brought. When I wake with him curled up beside me, I thank whoever sent him for the comfort he provides. When I walk through the
door and he scrambles for his Frisbee, I forget about trivial daily matters. If I cry, he wines and circles around me, I know I am not
alone. When he barks at anything that goes bump in the night, I know I am protected. And as we set off together to explore the world,
he is my guide, my healer, and my protector. He is my “Raven”.
