Become a Brookline Foster Home!
"I hope to make people realize
how totally helpless animals are,
how dependent on us, trusting as
a child must that we will be kind
and take care of their needs…
(They) are an obligation put on
us, a responsibility we have no
right to neglect, not to violate by
cruelty.

Being a volunteer foster home can be as rewarding as it is challenging! Our volunteer foster homes care
for dogs that have been pulled from shelters because they were in immediate danger of being euthanized.
We also occasionally have need for foster homes to care for puppies born to dogs we've rescued.
Recently with the new stricter laws aimed at the puppy mills, we are taking in dogs that are no longer
useful to the mill owners.

We require that all dogs pulled from shelters or puppy mills be fostered for a minimum two week period so
that we can learn more about the dog and his or her personality. However, a foster dog might remain with
you for longer depending on his adoptability.

You don't have to have any special talents to be a volunteer foster home - although a good understanding
of and experience with dogs is helpful. Knowledge of basic obedience techniques using positive
reinforcement methods is also helpful, but not required.

We are
always looking for foster homes - the more foster homes we have, the more Labs we can pull from
shelters/puppy mills and eventually match with their forever homes.

Pictures are Worth a Thousand Words
One of our foster Moms, who is a professional photographer, has beautifully captured the first three
months with her first foster dog. Jersey was rescued from a puppy mill where she spent eight years of her
life just making puppies. She was neglected and had no idea what it was like to be loved. This summer
she finally got what she has always wanted – a family! Jersey's foster family has watched her thrive as a
member of their family.  Jersey has found her forever home with her foster family who just cannot bear to
part with this very special girl.
