Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue
Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
Sheela
Sheela is a very sweet 4 year old female chocolate lab whose
condition has stumped various veterinarians over the past several
years. Her owner surrendered her to a good samaritan after no
longer being able to afford to give her the care she needed to get
better.  When one of her good samaritan's own dogs fell ill, they
asked for Brookline's help.  When we met Sheela, it just about made
us cry.  You could see there was a beautiful lab underneath that
scruffy coat.  In spite of the terrible discomfort she was in, Sheela
had such a sweet, calm demeanor we knew we had to try to help her.

One of Brookline's
Way Cool! (as Sparky would say!) foster homes
stepped up to take her into their home and she is now in our care.
Sheela's been diagnosed with a yeast infection of the skin, which
has resulted in the hair loss over much of her body.  Yeast infections
are usually caused by an underlying health issue that taxes the
immune system, making her susceptible to this secondary skin
infection.  Based on past vet records, our vet believes she may have
food or environmental allergies, so she's currently going through a
food trial and takes prednisone to help control the itchiness and
receives regular baths with a medicated shampoo to treat the yeast
infection.
Since in our care, we've learned she is an easy keeper, getting along well with her foster furry siblings.
She likes to play and accepts her routine baths willingly. Sheela will be with us for awhile and will require
on-going veterinary care until we can determine the root cause of her condition and get her on the road to
recovery. Seeing beyond what a lab looks like today to what they can be is what rescue is all about.  We
have a vision of a sweet little lab with a beautiful full, lush coat who will make a new family very happy!  If
you can share that vision with us, please consider making a donation to Brookline's bright horizon fund
today!

own when she first came to us, but looks beautiful

lab can be!
Update:

Well Miss Sheela has been in Brookline foster care now since July 31st, 2009 and is making fantastic
progress.  She has been eating only her hypoallergenic food and treats and her Prednisone dosage is
rids itself of all the food toxins she will need to be on the prednisone which could be months yet. After she
She is the sweetest Labby girl, not only does her tail wag when you arrive home her whole back end
wiggles for joy. She is a very loving girl who someday soon will be looking for her very own very special
fur-ever family to give her all the love and proper care she will need.

So far Brookline has spent in excess of $1,200.00 for Sheela's care and special food and we are far from
done with her recovery.

Please consider helping this sweet little labby girl and many like her who Brookline helps all year long. If
you are able to help Sheela get better and be the great Labby girl for an adopting family then please
consider a tax deductible donation to our Bright Horizons Fund.  This fund goes to help pay for all vet costs
that Sheela will continue to need until her full recovery is achieved. Just click the Make A Donation button
