Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue
Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
Paxton
Paxton was taken to the shelter at 1.5 yrs old because he had been having trouble walking for the past
year, and his owners couldn’t afford his continuous veterinary expenses.  Brookline knew that this 1.5
year old pup had suffered for the past year plus of his life and knew his success at a shelter was very
limited.  His world changed for the better when he came into Brookline foster care, but there were
challenges ahead.  Testing determined that Paxton had two completely blown ACL’s in his rear legs,
and he had developed some arthritis because the injuries had been left untreated for an extended
period of time.  Poor Paxton had adapted to walking all hunched over, putting most of his weight on his
front legs, and he suffered from atrophy in his rear legs due to lack of use.  Paxton had bi-lateral ACL
surgery that cost $5,000 and, because he is a youthful pup who is determined and gets bored/creative,
additional complications added nearly $2,000 more for his veterinary care.  Both of these amounts were
with discounts that the vet provided the rescue, and we really appreciated their donation through
discounting.  Paxton is now back in his foster home with his sutures removed.  He is already starting to
walk with some improvement. Next week he should begin his walking and swimming therapy to build
up his muscles in his legs. With the extra care and therapy he needs and deserves, soon he will walk,
play and romp like the pup he is. Please consider donating to our Bright Horizons fund to help Paxton
and other special need Labs!
