I’m freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! My puppies turned 8 weeks old last week so it is time for them to leave the nest! Okay – dogs don’t really live in nests, but you get the idea. Anyway my pups are growing up and that sure makes me happy!
Don’t get me wrong – I love my pups and I really enjoyed spending time with them. I loved to climb in the puppy pen to play with them. They would climb all over me and chew on my ears and tail….ahh, kids! I taught them how to play with tennis balls and squeak toys…and even how to chew on each other without chewing too hard. Like all good mommies, I made sure they learned these important things so they would be ready to go off on their own. Well, not really on their own – they are still pups, ya know! But I made sure they were ready to leave me and their brothers and sisters and start their own lives! I made sure I met each pup’s forever family so I could sniff them and make sure they are up to par. I know Brookline does an awesome job finding the best families for all their dogs. But these are my babies so I had to give my paws up, too! I loved every one of the families and I know they will give my pups all the love and attention they deserve. I know my pups are going to be really happy – and that is what makes me so happy!
Now that I know my pups are in good hands, I can focus on other things…..like ME! I have exciting news about me, too! My pups were not the only ones to get new families. Yep – I got a forever home, too! My new mom is the best! I met her back when my pups and I first came into foster care so I feel like I’ve known her forever. She is kind and loving – and she brought me a quarter pounder with cheese on my birthday. It doesn’t get any better than that! We’re going to go for long walks every day….and chase tennis balls in the yard….and come back to visit my foster moms for pool parties! Ah…life is good!
I have a feeling I’m going to be pretty busy enjoying some ME time, so I probably won’t be blogging much anymore. So let me just end this by sending big thanks and kisses from me and London, Houston, Oslo, Montreal, Paris, Vienna, Geneva, and Cairo. Thanks to my dad for taking such good care of me and Smuckers all our lives and for teaching us to be such great dogs….and for taking good care of my puppies when they were just born. Thanks to the great people at Brookline for giving me and my puppies a safe and loving place to stay and for finding the perfect family for each of my puppies. Thanks to my new mom for falling in love with me as quickly as I fell in love with you. We’ve got a bright future ahead of us, mom! Yep, life is good!

Hi Everybody,
Wow – what busy weekend it’s been! I know what you’re thinking – how could you NOT be busy with 8 babies?! But the past few days have been especially busy. On Thursday, my foster moms took the kids to the vet for their first set of puppy shots. I stayed home because I knew my foster moms could handle it. Besides, I needed the break! It was nice to have an hour to myself, ya know? Well, that didn’t last long. When the puppies got home, they acted like they hadn’t seen me in ages!! The all tumbled out of the crate and headed straight for me.
The vet visit wore them out so we had a pretty peaceful night after that. Friday was another big day. First – it was puppy bath time! The pups were not too sure about it, but I supervised to make sure my foster moms were doing a good job. My foster moms seem to make the whole bath thing much more complicated than it needs to be. I find the tongue method to be very effective and much easier than all that nonsense they did! But, to each his own, I guess.
Later Friday night we had lots of company….and they all came to meet me and my puppies! It was really fun meeting all those people and getting love from all of them. But that wasn’t the best thing that happened on Friday. Nope, there was something even bigger and better that happened! After all our company left, me and my foster moms sat down to have a serious talk. See, my puppies will be 8 weeks old soon and that means they’ll be ready to move on to their awesome new families….which means that I will be ready to move on to my new family, too. So me and my foster moms talked about all the great families that were interested in adopting me. It was really exciting to know that I’m so popular! We talked about how great all the families are and how lucky I am to have such a choice to make. When we picked my new mommy, I was so excited I could hardly sleep! My new mommy likes to take long walks every day – and so do I! My new mommy loves tennis – and I love to chase tennis balls! I hear she has a garage full of tennis balls! My new mommy wants a dog who will cuddle in bed with her – and I love to cuddle in bed! We are perfect for each other! I just can’t stop smiling about my new mommy. And speaking of how awesome my new mommy is ….
My new mommy came over today to celebrate my birthday! I’ll be seven years old tomorrow. My mommy threw an awesome birthday party for me today. Check this out…
Nope, you’re not seeing things. That’s four quarter pounders with cheese – and a chicken sandwich for allergy-boy Rudy! Yep, one for each of us big dogs. We each got our very own burger! Is my new mommy the coolest or what??! I think we’re gonna be really happy together.
My foster moms said the birthday girl had to pose in the party hat. I wasn’t too thrilled about that, but it was worth it for a quarter pounder with cheese!
Tonight we had even more company. I met more families that will be adopting my puppies. I checked them all out and they are all super cool! Brookline finds the BEST families. It feels so good know that me and my puppies will all have awesome families. When I came into foster care, my foster moms promised my dad that Brookline would take great care of me and my puppies. They sure did! I know my dad will feel good knowing how happy we are!
So all in all, it was a pretty awesome weekend for me and my puppies! I will sleep well tonight having good dreams about all our awesome new families!

Hi Everybody! Sorry it’s been so long since I posted, but like I said before, eight babies keep me really busy!
My puppies get bigger every day. Sigh. They don’t stay babies for long, do they? Not that I’m complaining. I’m happy that they are able to do more things on their own. I enjoy having a little “me” time. And I’m really happy that they are eating puppy food now….mostly because I get to eat the leftovers! YUM! The puppies are still nursing, too. I’m not free of that yet! But I don’t let them nurse as long now since they can fill their bellies with puppy food!
That reminds me. I had a slight medical issue last week. One of my milk glands got infected. My foster moms noticed that one of my teats was hard. The vet told my foster moms to put warm compresses on it and to knead it to work out the infection. I was a really good girl when they did that. It was really relaxing! The vet also said that my puppies shouldn’t nurse from that teat. So my foster moms had to figure out how to keep the puppies off that one teat. They looked online and one suggestion was duck tape. OUCH! No way! Luckily my foster moms didn’t like that idea either. Then one of my foster moms came up with an idea. She let me borrow one of her bras. She put it on me so it covered just the infected teat. When I walked into the room all decked out in my bra, my other foster mom started to giggle. I don’t know what was so funny. She wears a bra every day and I’ve never laughed at her! Anyway, the bra worked great to keep my babies away from that teat. And now the infection is cleared up so I can go bra-less again!
My babies went to the vet last week so they could get de-worming medicine. I sound like I have an accent, don’t I? We went to de vet to get de worming medicine! Hee hee! Of course I went with them. They are my babies, after all! Everyone there thought they were the cutest puppies ever. See – I told you they are really cute! They all loved me, too. The vet said I have the sweetest eyes. And she gave me a biscuit! That was the best part of the trip!
Since I’ve been getting along so well with the other fur-kids in the house, my foster moms decided to let them downstairs where my puppies are. They let Lady down first. I followed Lady into the room where the puppy pen is. Then I went and sat in front of the puppy pen, facing Lady. I didn’t grumble or anything. I just wanted her to know that I was keeping an eye on my pups! Lady just looked in the pen and then walked away. Lady was rescued from a puppy mill so she’s had many puppies herself. I guess I can’t blame her for saying, ‘been there, done that’. I let all the other kids check out my puppies, too. My foster moms kept them on the outside of the pen and I was cool with that. I know pretty soon they will be out on their own, romping with all kinds of dogs. But for now, they’re my babies and I want to keep an eye on them!
Today was a very busy day for me and my pups. We had a bunch of visitors. My foster moms called it a “Puppy Open House”. Lots of people came to meet me and my puppies. They said it was a great way to spend Valentine’s Day – with lots of chocolate. It was great! We got lots of lovin’ and pets and toys and treats. And it wasn’t even our birthday! Although, my birthday is coming up SOON….next week in fact…so if anyone wants to bring me a birthday present, you know where to find me!!
I hear we’re supposed to get more snow tomorrow. This is crazy. I mean, I like snow as much as the next Lab…. But I’m hangin’ a bit low these days, if you get my drift….and BRRRR…that snow is cold. It is fun to play in, though. I’m really good at finding the tennis balls in the snow. I dive head first into the snow to get the ball. My foster mom says it’s really fun to watch. She’s pretty easily amused, though.
Well, it’s been a busy day and I’m ready for a nap. Bye!
Luv,

Hi Everybody,
Welcome to my blog! I’ve never had a blog before. I don’t even really know what a blog is. I’ve walked through fog, sat on a log, chased a frog and even lived high on the hog. But a blog – well, that’s new to me. But my foster moms said all I have to do is tell my story and they’ll handle the rest! So here goes.
I’ve been living in my way cool foster home for a few weeks. I’ve been meaning to get my blog going, but I’ve been awful busy. Ya see, I have eight puppies to take care of. Yep, EIGHT! I’ve heard humans talk about how busy they are taking care of one baby. Just imagine having eight! It’s exhausting! But more about my babies later. First let me tell you MY story.
I’m six years old, but I have a birthday coming up so I’ll be seven real soon! My dad got me when I was just a puppy. My dad took great care of me and taught me all kinds of things. I have good manners and everyone who meets me comments on what a great dog I am. I lived with my dad and my canine buddy, Smuckers, until I came to my foster home. Smuckers is a chocolate Lab just like me. He’s a great guy. He’s the daddy of my puppies. Our dad really loves me and Smuckers and he didn’t want to give us up. But he had financial problems and lost his home. My foster moms said that is happening to a lot of people these days. Bummer. Smuckers went to live with my dad’s brother, but since I have all the puppies to take care of and find homes for, my dad asked the folks at Brookline to help. He was really sad to see us go, but he knew it was the best thing for us. He gave my foster moms big hugs and said “Take good care of my dogs.” They promised they would and so far they are taking great care of us.
I moved to my foster home three weeks ago. I’ve been really busy since then doing mom things. Like I said, I have eight beautiful puppies – four boys and four girls. They were born on January 7th. All my puppies are chocolate, just like me.
My dad told my foster moms that I was named after “the eternal city”…you know, in Italy. I’m not sure where that is, but I hear they have great food. I really like food. It’s a Lab thing. Hmmm…. maybe Labs should be from Italy. Evviva Labs!! Anyway, my foster moms decided to name my puppies after famous cities, too. Cool, huh? The boys are London, Montreal, Houston, and Oslo. The girls are Paris, Geneva, Vienna, and Cairo. Did I mention how beautiful they are? I may be a little biased, but I think they’re the best puppies in the whole world. Everyone who meets them talks about how gorgeous they are so I think I’m right. We’ve had a lot of visitors. That many people couldn’t be wrong!
When we first came to our foster home, the puppies and I stayed downstairs all the time. I wasn’t sure why….or what happened to my foster moms when they went up those stairs and disappeared. After we were here for about a week, I found out that four other dogs live upstairs! My foster moms said they wanted to let me and the puppies settle in before meeting the other kids. One day I was out in the yard and my foster moms brought the other kids out. There are two yellow Labs, Rudy and Lady, and two black Labs, Gus and Nona. We all get along great so now I get spend time downstairs with my puppies and upstairs with the big kids! I love being with my pups, but it’s nice to have some adult conversation, ya know?!
I’ve met lots of new people, too, and everyone is so nice. Last weekend I went to Petsmart and greeted everyone who came into the store. Everyone wanted to pet me and I love being petted so it was a win-win situation! Ahh…life is good! Or as they say in Italy, life is good – only they say it in Italian but I don’t know how to do that.
Time to get back to my puppies! Bye!
Luv,
Rome
