Luna is one of Brookline’s foster dogs with special medical needs. She was taken into the rescue on January 18, 2010.

Well, I’m back from the hospital! I had to spend the night there after my surgery, and everyone said that I was the nicest dog. They even gave me a special football bandanna to wear for the Superbowl. My human foster brother is letting me borrow some of his t-shirts, to keep my bandage dry. So, I’m looking pretty fashionable right now.
I make this shirt look good!
So far, I’m doing great on 3 legs! I haven’t had a chance to go running yet, that’s my favorite thing to do. My foster mom says I have to stay on a leash for a few more days. But, I can’t go too far anyway in all this snow. It’s way over my head. I like to eat the icicles, though!
Look at all of this snow!
Now that my problem leg is no longer a problem, there are a lot of new things I can’t wait to do. I haven’t even been on a walk around my neighborhood yet, because my foster mom didn’t want me dragging my leg on the sidewalk. There is a dog park, and she even says there is an ice cream stand that has doggie sundaes! But she says she will only take me if I get used to the car. Today we sat in the car for 3 minutes, and then drove to the end of the driveway, and then came back home. Whew, what a relief to get out of that car. I cried a little bit, but I didn’t throw up. I’m very proud of myself!
I better rest up for my next adventure.

Luna

Hi, I’m Luna! I’m a shiny black lab/beagle mix. I’m around 6 months old, but I’m not sure. You see, I was a stray and was living at a shelter until the nice people at Brookline took me in and found a foster home for me. I’m living with two human kids and two furry brothers.

Nap time with my brothers.
They are a lot bigger than me. I’m only 27 lbs. When they are standing up, I like to walk between their legs and go under their bellies. It’s like going through a tunnel. They don’t like it, though.
Everyone is making a big deal about my front leg. I can’t walk on it the way I should. My paw folds under and I have to drag it and walk on the front of my wrist, instead. My foster mom thinks that I might have lived in a backyard before, and never had the chance to run and play. Since I’ve been living in my new foster home, I’ve been having so much fun running up and down the stairs, and playing outside, and trying to get my foster brothers to chase me. But, my paw is getting injured. I can’t feel anything in that part of my leg, so it doesn’t bother me at all. Three vets have said that my leg should be amputated so I don’t hurt myself any worse. In the beginning, my foster mom was hoping that I could keep my leg, but after seeing how much I love to run (I’m fast!), she says it will be better if I am a tripawd dog. Then I can play as much as I want, and I won’t have to stay on a leash when my paw is sore.
My foster home is full of so many new things and new smells. I’m doing so well with my potty training that I don’t even have to sleep in my crate at night. This is what I like: visitors, pulling the stuffing out of my toys, and treats!!! This is what I don’t like: the car, getting in the car, riding in the car, and getting out of the car. My foster mom thinks I will get more comfortable in the car if we take a lot of short rides to fun places, but right now it gives me an upset stomach. I even drool into the cup holders.
My leg is going to be amputated next Thursday. I’m also going to be spayed, so I will be one tired puppy for a few days. I’ll keep everyone posted on how I’m coming along.
I love getting pets.
Love,
Luna
