Today we went on an even longer walk in the park! I am pretty good on a leash and only pull a little. My foster sister, Maya, went swimming in the creek but I only got my paws wet. I had a little separation anxiety when I first got to my foster home but after only a week I can be left alone. And noooo barking, in fact I only bark when I am excited. I took a long car ride the other day and I was very good, I just laid in the back seat. My eating habits are getting better also, I was not used to having defined meal times and with Maya around my foster parents can’t just leave food in my dish because she will gobble it up. My foster parents had a crate ready for me but I have not needed it, I sleep on the bedroom floor all through the night.  Love, Ginger

Heys guys I am back!  I have so much to tell you about how things are going.  Well let’s just start off by saying life is good!  My new FM and FD are the best.  They give me lots of yummy food and treats.  I like tricking them into thinking that I am not into dog food, so they have to add some really good stuff into my food to get me to eat.  FM is a little worried that I am not eating a ton, but FD isn’t too worried.  They are going to try elevating my food to see if that helps.  But don’t worry, I am not starving or anything.  It might just be that I am getting such good healthy food that I don’t need to eat that much.

One of my new favorite things to do is go on walks!  I love being outside and getting to smell all these new things.  I guess that since I not used to walking on a leash I am a little all over the place, sometimes running into Maya.  Oh well, they say that I will learn how to walk better once I get more practice.  I say more practice please!  And i just get walked on a plain ol’ leash and collar.  No special harnesses for me.  I am still not quite ready for the long walks that they are used to, but I know I will get there.

I have made quite a number of new friends.  Of coarse Maya and I are best friends.  After all, she is the resident dog and has taught me a lot.  We are starting to play more and more.  And of coarse we like to snooze together!  And those chickens, well guess what?  I don’t even care about them.  I have no problems with them.  They really aren’t that interesting so why bother them.  My foster parents are really proud of me for not bothering them.

In the house I continue to be really good.  I sleep all night long and I don’t have accidents in the house.  At first I was a little scared of the steps to go upstairs but not anymore!  I have no problems going up and down them.  Well today is a  big day for me because I am going to the vet so I better get ready!

Hi I am ginger

Hi I am ginger

8/31/2010

HI, I’m Ginger.  I’ve lived in a kennel my whole 7 years and just started on my retirement.  I was a little dirty when my new foster family picked me up on Sunday but after some brushing and a bath I feel and smell much better.  I was very good on the car ride home and met my new foster sister Maya and we get along great.  My foster dad works from home which is nice that I am not alone much.  I’m a little out of shape but I’ve been on a few walks so far and I am pretty good on a leash although I tend to get underfoot a little.

Apparently I give off a good vibe because I was trusted to sleep in the bedroom with my foster parents and Maya on the first night!  My housetraining is going well too.  They have a nice fenced yard that I roam around off the leash and mingle with some chickens which I really don’t pay any attention to.   I bark a little when I am excited or nervous but I quiet right down.   I’m starting to remember how to play and have fun, and there are 2 children next door that I say hi to through the fence and can’t wait to play with them also.
