COPPERS SUCCESS STORY:
My story begins when I arrived at the shelter after my brother and I were found wondering around exploring. The shelter place was a little scary and I didn’t really have such good feelings about things there. My former owner came to get my brother and I out, but could only pay for one of us. I keep hearing how times are tough for people. Apparently, I was a very rare guest at the shelter, because I was allowed to stay for such a long time – 6 weeks. The shelter people kept telling me what a great dog I was and that I had great potential and that surely somebody would want to take me home with them. Nice as the shelter folks were to me, I didn’t really like it there, because I prefer a little more room and don’t really appreciate being confined. Heather from Brookline came to visit me and then I got to leave the shelter!
Then the nice Brookline folks set me up with a foster family and they were really great! They treated me very nicely, took great care of me, gave me a couple of baths, and took me for walks. They played with me and gave me lots of belly rubs and made me feel very special. They even made me my very own loaf of homemade bread to eat. Well, I thought they made it just for me. Thanks so very, very much, foster family. You helped me out after a difficult time in my life.
After I spent about 4 weeks with my foster family, I got to go to this thing called an “introduction” to meet what would possibly be my new family and my fursister. Let me tell you, my fursister really “introduced” herself to me! She started off right away letting me know that I shouldn’t get any ideas; that these were her people; and that I shouldn’t forget my place because she was there with the family first. The word “bossy” came to mind. There are two young girls in the family and they were just so happy to see me when I met them. They were petting me and giving me belly rubs and the whole time, my fursister was going on and on about how they were her kids and I shouldn’t get any ideas. I think she was just trying to protect them, just in case.
The ride home to the family’s house was peaceful, thank goodness. When we got there, I got to check out the yard for a while with my adoptive family. Let me tell you, I have been living like a Very Important Pet since I got to this house! I’ve heard my adoptive family say that they are surprised my belly isn’t bald by now from all of the belly rubs. What can I say, I love belly rubs!
After about a week though, they gave me a very thorough, all inclusive, spa treatment bath and brushing with lots and lots of treats. Everyone says I’m even more handsome than I was before. I have this brand new, really cushy 6″ thick bed that’s made out of something called “memory foam” and it’s a really comfy place to sleep at night. I think I’ve seen my adoptive mom eyeing up my bed a time or two, though, like she’s thinking about using it herself!
Sometimes, I’ve had a sad expression on my face and my adoptive family thought I was kind of “down” because of all of the things I’ve been through. As the weeks have gone by though, I have been forgetting about the old things, and the long time at the shelter, and making new, happy memories with my new family. Sometimes, you can see me “smiling” while I’m running around the backyard. I love it when my adoptive dad plays ball with us in the backyard in the morning. He and I play with a football or a bouncy ball toy and my fursister chases after her favorite ball.
I get lots of playtime with my family and my fursister and I like to show them how goofy I can be. One of my favorite things to do is to take whatever toy my fursister has just decided she wants to play with. I like to think of it as kind of a payback for all of her “explaining” that first time we met. We get along pretty well now though, and only have an occasional disagreement now and again. Sometimes she licks my face like she thinks she’s my mother. It’s embarrassing, especially since she’s younger than me.
My family has taken my fursister and I on lots of walks and when we turn in the driveway, my adoptive family says that we’re “home” now. I like to think of it that way too. After our walks and when I’m tired from playing, I get to rest in the grass or on the back porch, checking out my awesome backyard, listening to the birds chirp and watching my crazy fursister chasing after her ball! She never stops! And they talk about me and my belly rubs!
On my adoption day, the Brookline lady was explaining all of the adoption contract stuff about how my family agrees not to “abandon, give away, sell or dispose of the dog in any way” and that “if at any time you determine you no longer want to or no longer can keep the dog . . .” and my adoptive family and I just kind of looked at each other like, “yeah, right” – like that’s not ever gonna happen because I’ve found my furever “home” and I’m not going anywhere! Thanks foster family! Thanks Brookline! Ahhhhh, now this is the life! Hey, I’m ready for a belly rub!

Today is the big day where Brookline Rescue is coming out to make me an official family member to my new home. My family really loves me, they told me that I’m “home”. I’m never going anywhere again. Stay tuned for a Success Story of my journey from the shelter, to my loving Foster Home, to my furrever home. Thanks Brookline for making this all possible, more so, thanks to my new family for giving me a great home!

Well I spent my first week in my furrever home and I’m doing quite well!

Hello everyone it’s Copper again and I thought it time for an update. I’ve been living with my fosters for 3 weeks now and I’m starting to feel more like myself. I’ve really started to open up. I get so excited when they get home but calm quickly and then hang out with them wherever they are, except when they use that vacuum. The other day I barked at a squirrel. See I don’t bark much but I was feeling good so I barked and it ran away.
My fosters have been taking really excellent care of me and I have gotten back into shape. I have lost some weight and am a slim 105 lbs. I’ve been exercising regularly now. With the weather cooler I’ve also taken to playing fetch and am really goofy with my toys. The great folks at Brookline sent me a bone and Frisbee which I like to play with a lot. I also like the bouncy fetch toy and impress my fosters by dropping it at their feet as soon as I get back from retrieving it; they seem easy to please and it makes me happy to please them. We’ve been going on lots of walks and I’ve been good on the leash but still would like to chase some of the wildlife sometimes.

Check out my new bone.
I went to the vet because I had a minor ear infection and the vet said I’m in great health. I really liked that place- man, they couldn’t keep their hands off me there, giving me treats and telling me how handsome I am. I do admit I have a rich thick coat of chocolate fur with some black and yellow in it that is wonderful to pet, so of course I let them pet me as much as they wanted. My foster family has figured out that I have the personality of a real sweetheart and really like children, especially the little girl down the street who gave me hugs and she got kisses in return. I get to go for rides in the car and am a perfect gentleman while riding (no backseat driving at all). Just like to hang my snout out the window and get in all the smells. I think we’re going to go swimming in the pond soon and I can’t wait to do that. Although I think they want to give me a bath again afterwards.

The fosters have been giving me the run of the house when they go to work and I have not done anything bad cause I’m an angel. Actually I sleep on their bed while they’re out (but don’t tell them). And I get belly rubs. Yes let’s not forget the belly rubs. Can’t get enough of them. Yes belly rubs. Other than not liking the vacuum, I haven’t shown any fear of things like thunder and don’t bother anything that isn’t mine, except for that loaf of homemade bread. I thought they left it out for me and the vet did say I should eat more.
Right now I’m hoping to find my forever home. So if you want a big sweetheart who well, loves belly rubs (did I mention that already) and is calm and ready to devote himself to you, I’m your man, er, dog.
Gotta go. Time to walk my foster dad. He gets cranky if he’s not walked regularly. I’ll update you about my swimming adventure soon.
Ciao

Hey everyone! I’m Copper and a new foster at Brookline. Someone left me in a shelter for reasons unknown and I just don’t understand. I mean, look at my picture! Am I one handsome guy or what? After my fosters got me cleaned up and brushed I have this nice mostly chocolate coat with yellow and black to give me an exotic look. And while I am exceptionally large at 115 lbs or so, I am a docile and gentle giant. We go for long walks and I am very good on a leash with just a flat collar. All the neighbors tell me I’m handsome and my furry chocolate lab girlfriend Molly that lives 2 houses over just digs me.

I like to hang with people or other dogs and do not like to be caged or confined by myself. But I have proven trustworthy when given freedom in the house though I am known for a little counter surfing (only that one time). I am full o f love and will flip over for a belly rub, well pretty much any time. Right now I’m not high energy though it may be due to all the changes recently, the heat, or all the exercise the fosters want to give me. I like kids (hey Petsmart pals) and have met new furry friends and wouldn’t mind a furry bro or sis. Anyhow, if you’re looking for a cuddly bear (see my imitation of a bearskin rug below), I’m your boy!

I’ll write more later when I’m done with my nap.
Ciao!
