Belle and Lucy

Lucy and Belle got new, super-fluffy beds this weekend. The girls love them!

Our foster home is the best!

See how comfy Lucy is?  And Belle is smiling ear-to-ear!  These sweet girls are still looking for their furever home!

Happy Spring!  Belle and Lucy came with  us to my sister-in-law’s house last weekend. They travel so well in the van, we almost forgot they were there! I think they had the most fun (and really surprised us) when they both jumped in the lake. These girls are WATER dogs! They had such a blast swimming after sticks and diving off the dock. (Lucy was a little sore after all the hill climbing, and jumping… and felt much better after a little rest).

So, if you know any families looking for swimmers…. These girls are still available.

Here are some new pictures of the girls (Belle, ears up listening; Lucy lying down).

Aren't I so shiny?!?

Just relaxing after a swim!

Hi, All (and happy spring?!):

Just a quick update re Lucy and Belle. They are 2 senior ladies (Lucy is 10 and Belle will be 12 soon) who have been with us since November. They have both lost some weight and are looking quite good. They went to the vet in January, and the vet said she couldn’t believe their ages. They show very few signs of aging, physically or personality-wise. Both dogs have adjusted well to our home. Having lived with a single older gentleman their entire lives, they have both adjusted very well to living with a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old (The dogs don’t mind the kids and the kids love the dogs). The dogs don’t chase the children or chew their toys. They’ve also been good around visiting children. Belle and Lucy are settled most of the day, yet still have the energy to play outside, go for walks, etc. Both ride well in the car and allow us to bathe them with no problems.

Belle LOVES people (esp adults). She comes for pets and follows me around the house. She’s gorgeous, and a real love bug. She’s pretty good with her commands, and is a little higher on the dominance scale with people (4-ish) and dogs (4.5 ish). She definitely has little tolerance for in-your-face dogs/high energy dogs. She will growl, and then snap at the air if a dog doesn’t listen to her “back away from me” growl. We’ve had dogs visit our home and taken “the girls” to others’ homes with dogs. After Belle and another dog have their initial meeting (and the dog respects Belle’s wishes), things go smoothly. We did have a skittish Border Collie visit — 45 lbs of shivering anxiety — and the BC would growl at Belle every time Belle walked by. The BC’s family were vigilant about keeping an eye on her and there were no problems. Most times, though, the other dogs we’ve had her around would give her wide birth and she would seem not to notice them at all. She was great with my sister-in-law’s little Westie.

Lucy is super sweet and very gentle. Lucy is a little more independent than Belle. Doesn’t need to be with you every minute of the day. On nicer days, she’s been enjoying sitting in the yard for up to a couple of hours. She does like people and is exceptionally good with the kids. She really would love to cuddle on the couch with someone. She’s a remarkable shade of dark, dark brown and has the softest ears. She alert barks when people come to the door and will bark at passers-by and squirrels in the yard. She leaves the room when I vacuum and looks for a safe space during thunderstorms.

They have been together for 6 yrs, but I think they can be separated, particularly if they go to loving, attentive homes.

We love them. They’re great dogs!
