Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
|

When you donate to Brookline, it makes you think how you're helping so many more dogs than you
ever would if you only kept receiving. When you ask for gifts at your birthday, you are putting yourself in
front of those who really do need love and caring. The world doesn't revolve around you. We really
don't need as much as we think we do. You may think that if you donate to a shelter, your party has to
be animal- themed. That's not true. My birthday was the best one I had in years. Here's how it went.
A couple of months ago, I announced to my parents that I had checked out "It's My Party- How To Plan
The Ultimate Birthday Party" out of our school library. After leafing through it, I took out a pad of paper
and a pen and wrote down the parties I had in mind- High School Musical, a camp- out - which, by
the way, was out, since it was winter, and a spa. After deciding on the spa and making my guest list, I
decided I wanted to donate to a shelter. While surfing the Internet, I came to Brookline's homepage.
Since I have a Labrador at home, I decided that was what I'd donate to.
Three weeks later, my mom and I started decorating the basement and blowing up balloons. The
next day, my friends arrived at 6:00 p.m. They set up their sleeping bags (this was a sleepover) in the
basement. Next we opened gifts -for the dogs, of course! It was unbelievable how many overflowing
boxes were sitting in the living room that night. Later. we made bath fizzies and lip glosses and
watched Princess Diaries. Halfway through the movie, we all got facials.
On Monday, I got an invitation to my friend's party. After seeing how I donated to Brookline, she
donated to the shelter where she got her dog, Annie! I hope that, after reading this, you will be
inspired to donate, too!
