Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue
Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
October 2006
Hey Kelly,

I'm so glad you asked that question because the Bright Horizons Fund is a way
cool thing! For most of us dogs, our biggest worry is when are we going to the
park and who's giving us our next biscuit? But not all dogs are that lucky. Some
dogs have serious medical conditions that make them feel really yucky and may
even endanger their lives. Sometimes they feel so bad they don't even want to go
to the park! It's hard to imagine, I know. But it's true. The folks at Brookline think
every dog should feel good enough to enjoy a walk in the park. So, they do
everything they can to make sure all the pups in their care have what they call
"quality of life". In dog terms, that means having happy eyes and a wagging tail!
That's where the Bright Horizons fund comes in. All the money in that fund is used
to pay for vet care for these special needs dogs. Now you're probably thinking
"Vet? YUCK!" Nobody likes going to the vet. But everybody wants to feel good and
Hey Sparky:

What is the Bright Horizons Fund and how does my donation to that fund help labs in need?

Your secret admirer, Kelly Cover Girl
vets help us do that. These special needs Labs require more vet care than the average doggie and that adds up to a lot of money. But
it's worth it when you see the difference it makes for these guys and gals!

Take Bode, for example. Bode was just a baby - only 9 weeks old - when he moved to a Brookline foster home. His first night there he
got really sick and had to be rushed to the hospital. He was severely dehydrated and having seizures. Scary stuff! But the doctors took
really good care of him and he was able to go home three days later. Turns out Bode had a bad infestation of parasites. Yuck! But
thanks to the awesome care he got, he recovered and is now living the good life with his forever family. Way cool!

And there was Callie. After she arrived at her Brookline foster home, Callie was diagnosed with demodectic mange, an upper urinary
tract infection and a secondary skin infection from the scratching associated with the mange. Not fun! Callie made so many trips to the
vet they should have given her frequent flyer miles or something! It all paid off, though. Callie is now a perfectly healthy (and awfully
pretty!) young girl living with her loving forever family. Super cool!

Unfortunately, all of the dogs don't get better. But the Bright Horizons Fund can still help those dogs who are really sick have that
"quality of life" thing I mentioned earlier. When Jackie's foster parents took her to the vet, they found out her kidneys were failing and
she didn't have long to live. But thanks to the generous donations to the Bright Horizons Fund, Brookline was able to pay for Jackie to
have the medicines and IV fluids she needed to feel good - even though she was really sick. Jackie crossed over the rainbow bridge
last month. Her foster mom and dad sure do miss her. But the awesome part is that Jackie was able to spend her final days wagging
her tail! That's money well spent.

The Bright Horizons Fund has helped other dogs like Bear D. Bear, Sammi, and Kallie. You can read all of their stories right here on
the web site. Once you read about them, you'll want to make a donation to the way cool Bright Horizons Fund!

I've never had to use any money from the Bright Horizons Fund 'cos I've always been really healthy (and really good-looking! Hee-hee).
But I sure am glad to know the fund is there to help all of my buddies. And I'm really grateful to all the super folks who donate money to
help my pals get the medical care they need. I hope lots more people donate so Brookline can help lots more dogs!

Thanks for writing, Kelly. Hey, since you're a cover girl, maybe you can hook me up? I'd make an awesome cover guy since, well, I'm a
really good-looking dog!
