Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes

he doesn't even grumble at the new guy. Pretty cool, huh? So, maybe once you got used it, you would learn to LIKE the new kid and
wouldn't even mind sharing your toys! Foster brothers, like me, can be a lot of fun, ya know. If you don't believe me, you can ask my
amigos, Rudy and Gus. I decided to give them a call (What? I can type at the computer but I can't dial a phone?) to see what they
thought. They agreed that foster dogs are way cool. We had a great time reminiscing about the old days. We laughed until our bellies
hurt!
One of our favorite memories was the time we played the best practical joke ever on my foster moms. One day around Christmas, my
foster moms decided to put us in a bedroom when they went to work because my amigos, Rudy and Gus, liked to pull ornaments off
the Christmas tree and eat them. So, my foster mom, Mary, put us in the bedroom and closed the door. The last time she had done
that, "someone" knocked the closet doors down! Hee-hee. She has those silly bi-fold doors and they come off the track really easy if
you jump on them! Anyway, Mary decided to put a baby gate in front of the closet doors so that wouldn't happen again. Silly girl! Does
she think I (I mean "someone") can't knock down a baby gate?! Well, the baby gate gave me a great idea for a practical joke. The closet
is right inside the bedroom door…..so I knocked the baby gate down on its side….wedged one side under the closet door…and the
other side was right in front of the bedroom door. My foster mom, Peggy, got home first. She tried to open the bedroom door …and
BOOM! It wouldn't open! HA! She pushed really hard, but no luck! It opened about an inch or so….just enough for me to stick my nose
out and look at her…. And for her to peek in and see my set-up. I wish you could have seen her face!! She reached in and tried to move
the gate, but I was standing on it. She told me to move, but I just stood there giving her kisses every time she looked in! So, she went
and got treats….and started throwing them across the room so we'd all run to the other side of the room. Yum!! But, even then she
could not move the gate because I had it wedged under the closet door. Then she went and got an umbrella…and tried to pry the
closet door off the gate. No luck! I wish you could have been there! This was soooooo funny! She was getting really aggravated. We
heard her call Mary at work and say "I can't get the boys out of your room!!!!" Then - you're not gonna believe this - she got a HAMMER -
and reached in and started whacking on the closet door…trying to push it off the baby gate! HA HA! I've never seen anything like it. Oh, I
wish I'd had a camera. But, it gets better! I had it wedged in there really good so she finally gave up and said we were gonna have to
wait until Mary came home….so Mary could CLIMB IN THE WINDOW!!!!! What a riot!! You should have seen Mary coming through the
window….head first….feet in the air….while me and my amigos crowded around her face giving her kisses! It was sooooo funny!! She
crawled in…onto a chair…and onto the floor …with the 3 amigos on top of her! Hee-hee!! Oh, my stomach hurt from laughing so hard!!!
Silly Girls!!!
See all the fun you could have with a foster brother or sister? You won't regret it, I promise! And your mom won't regret it either. My
foster moms have the best stories to tell and get lots of laughs all because of me! And even if I did drive them crazy sometimes, they
love me so much and say I'll always be their Sparkman. They say there's nothing like the bond you form with your foster dog. And the
satisfaction you get from knowing you've helped a super dog out of a bad situation can't be measured! Not every dog would do well
with foster dogs coming and going. Some puppers are just meant to be "only dogs". But the Brookline folks have lots of experience
with bringing in foster dogs and know how to help most dogs handle the adjustments.
Tell your mom to go for it, Sadie! You'll both be glad you did!

Hi Sadie,
I can tell you a thing or two about foster siblings because I, the Great Sparkdini,
was once a foster dog myself! I spent six months living with my foster family and I
sure do have great memories of those days. I lived with my foster moms and my
two foster brothers, Rudy and Gus. We were known as the three amigos and, boy,
did we have great times together. Before I went to stay there, my foster moms
were not sure how Gus would get along with a new dog in the house. He was
nervous meeting new dogs and would sometimes grumble at them. Gus avoided
me at first, but I eventually won him over and we got to be good buddies. That
wasn't surprising since I am a really cool - and really good-looking - dog! Hee
hee! My foster moms said that having me in the house actually helped Gus. With
each new foster that comes into their house, Gus gets more comfortable and now
Dear Sparky,
I am a 4 year old yellow lab, and my mom is seriously thinking about fostering a brother or sister for me. I
am a very jealous dog (it was hard enough for me to get used to Ally, my cat sister last year), and I like to
be attached to my mom as much as possible. I don't think I would ever get into a fight with a brother or
sister, but I am not sure I would like sharing my toys and home with another lab. What is your opinion on
foster brothers and sisters?
Thanks, Sadie
