Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
|

Some of the dogs have a rougher start. They wind up in the slammer - you know, the lock-up, the can, the big-house, the joint! Those
humans call these places "shelters", but we know better, don't we?! Do you think any of them would want to spend the night at the
"Alcatraz shelter"?? Anyway, sometimes an innocent Labbie ends up in one of these places. Trust me, this is no place for any pupper to
be! Luckily, Brookline has contacts on the inside and they find a way to get a message out to the Brookline folks that a Labbie needs to
be sprung. Brookline sends a specially trained volunteer to meet the Labbie and find out his story. The Brookline folks must have
impressive credentials because the guards at the lock-up let them spring any Labbie they want. After the Labbie is sprung, he goes to
live with his foster family. What's a foster family?? Oh boy - that's a whole book in itself! Oh, the stories I could tell about foster families!
Hee-hee! In a nutshell, foster families are super-duper Brookline volunteers who take the Labbies into their homes to get to know them
better and to help them settle into living in a home. That way they can tell the adoptive families a bunch of information about the dogs
that the folks at the lock-up would have no way of knowing. The Brookline folks work really hard to learn as much as they can about each
and every dog so they can find the family that is the best match for him.
And you know the best part of being a Brookline dog?? Once a Brookline dog, ALWAYS a Brookline dog! That means the Brookline folks
keep in touch with you even after you go to your forever home! They come out to your new home to visit with you when it's time to finalize
your adoption. That's really cool cos you get to show off your new digs and your awesome family! I got to show my foster moms my spot
on my new couch! And your forever family can contact the Brookline folks at any time if they have any questions about anything. And, if
anything happens and you have to find another home - even years later - the Brookline folks will be there to help you out again. Is that
cool or what?!
Yep - being a Brookline dog is WAY COOL. And I'm proud to be a really famous (and really good-looking) Brookline dog!
Thanks for writing, Max. If anyone else has a question, send them to the Great Sparkdini at AskSparky@verizon.net.

Hi Max!
That's a good question. Luckily, I have a good answer! Hey, they don't call me the Great
Sparkdini for nothing! Hee-hee!
There are a number of ways a dog can become a Brookline dog. But, they all involve one
thing - a cool person who sees a Labbie in need of a forever home and contacts the way cool
folks at Brookline Lab Rescue! Some of these dogs are living with a family who is taking care
of them. But, for some reason, the dog can't stay with the family. Sometimes it's because the
family is really busy with other things and the dog doesn't get enough attention. Sometimes
it's because a family member is sick or has allergies. Sometimes it's because the family has
to move. But ya know what? The folks at Brookline don't even care what the reason is! They'll
help out any Labbie who needs to find a new home - no matter what the reason is. All the
owner has to do is contact Brookline and ask them about surrendering a Lab. Cool, huh?!
Brookline will send a volunteer out to meet the dog and the family. The volunteer will ask the
family lots of questions about the dog and spend time with the dog - talking to him, petting
him, giving him treats. What doggie wouldn't like that?! After that, the volunteer puts all the
information about the dog on the Brookline web site and starts looking for that perfect forever
family. The dog hangs out with his owner until his new family is found. The dog's owner gets
to help pick the family cos, after all, they know the dog best!

Dear Sparky,
How does a dog get to be so lucky to become a Brookline dog?
