Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue
Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
August 2006
remember I mentioned those grown-ups getting tired? Well, I'll bet you don't get tired that quick. Maybe you could contact Brookline to
see if you live close to any of Brookline's foster homes. If you do, you could help out the foster family by helping to exercise their foster
dogs. I'm not talking jumping jacks and sit-ups. I'm talking FUN exercise like going for walks and playing fetch! Lots of Brookline's
foster dogs are young guys and gals who ended up in the shelter because they have tons of energy and didn't get enough exercise. A
dog with lots of energy and no way to release it can end up driving people crazy - kind of like kids, ya know?! Hee-hee! I'll bet any foster
family would be thrilled to have a helper to exercise their dog. And we won't tell them that you and the dog are just playing and having
fun! We'll let them think you're working really hard! Hee-hee! Of course, you'd have to get permission from your mom and dad and they
would have to talk with the Brookline folks to let them know it's okay. But I'll bet your mom and dad would be proud of you doing such an
important job.

While you're talking to your mom and dad about Brookline, maybe you could convince them to become Brookline volunteers, too! If they
were volunteers, you'd be able to get even more involved by doing stuff with them. You could help out at Brookline events - like the
Paws Walk and Santa pictures and information tables at pet stores and other events. Those are all fun things. You get to meet lots of
cool people and way cool dogs. Our foster dogs like to attend those events, too, so you could help out by hanging out with them and
making sure they stay out of trouble while their foster moms and dads are busy with other things. You could also help by giving out
goody bags, helping run games, handing out flyers, selling Brookline stuff, and talking to people about how awesome Labs are.
There's information about volunteering on Brookline's web site. And you and your mom and dad could spend as much or as little time
volunteering as you want. There are no time requirements! So tell your folks not to worry that it's going to take up too much time 'cos it
doesn't have to!

There's another, really easy, way you could help the Brookline Labs - go shopping! C'mon, admit it….you're a girl and you love to
shop…right?? Hee-hee! That's okay - now you can say you're doing it to help the Labs! Here's what you do. Click on the Shop Our
Partners link on Brookline's web site. That will show you places that will donate money to Brookline whenever you shop there. Cool!
And ask your family and friends to do all of their internet shopping through www.igive.com and choose Brookline as the cause they
want to support. Then they can shop at all the web sites that they normally shop at….and every time they do, Brookline gets some
money! How cool is that?! All of the money that is donated to Brookline is used to help the Labs in need. Just think of all the money you
could raise for the Labbies just by asking people to shop this way. The more people you tell about this, the more Labs you can help!

See Amy, there are lots of ways you can help the Labs. I guess 12 is a pretty cool age after all!

Hi Amy,
You're 12 years old? Wow - that's OLD! I'm only 3! Of course, in dog years, I'm
about 21 so I guess I'm actually older than you! Hee-hee!

So you love Labs, huh? Cool! Labs love people, too…..and we especially love kids
like you! You guys have the energy to keep up with us. Some of those grown-
ups…well, you know how it is. After a few hours, they've had enough and need a
break. But we still have plenty of play left in us, don't we?!

And you want to help Labs, huh? Way Cool! There are lots of Labs that need help
from super-duper folks like you.   Now some people would say you're just a kid so
there's nothing that you can do. But we know better, don't we? Kids can do lots of
things! And they can even do some things better than grown-ups! For example,
Dear Sparky,

My name is Amy and I am a 12 year old girl. I LOVE labs and I am interested in volunteering at Brookline.
Because of my age, I am wondering what I would be able to do to help Brookline.

Sincerely, Amy
